"FULL BLOSSOM of OUR HIGHER SELF"

Jean Houston in her book Jump Time says: “not since the days of Plato, Buddha & Confucius, some twenty-five hundred years ago, has there been such an uprising of spiritual yearning”.

One place this is certainly evident is the Star Wars phenomena where our youth are lined up for blocks, sometimes waiting hours to buy a ticket to see the latest sequel. Our city’s local newspaper the Times Colonist recently had an article entitled “The Church of Star Wars” (written by Todd Babiak Southam Newspapers). It mentioned that with the human talent for asking unanswerable questions of ourselves & the universe, something inside us longs for a belief system; some embrace art, literature, philosophy & some just being in nature; others drink liquor & freebase dangerous chemicals. “When you are young & easily swayed by absolutes & mythologies, it makes sense to attach your longings to a cultural powerhouse such as Star Wars. The Force offers history, miracles, strength through acceptance & potential for everlasting life. Instead of going to church, just rent a movie over & over again” (quote from the article).

Many parents aren’t noticing our youth are searching for spirituality. Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode IV says “You can’t win Darth; if you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine”. Our little green friend Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back says “for my ally is The Force & a powerful ally it is; Life creates it, makes it grow; its energy surrounds & binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel The Force around you, between you & me, the tree, the rock, everywhere”.

Neuroanatomist Marian Diamond at the University of California at Berkeley has shown that the human brain can change structurally & functionally as a result of learning & experience for better or worse - it is the environment that makes the difference. In environments that are positive, enriching, stimulating, encouraging of interaction & action, our brain continues to develop, even throughout our lifetime. It grows new neural connections that enhance our capacities for learning, creativity & problem solving - we make our brain as we use it.

Archeologists discovered a clay vessel of wheat grass seeds buried in an Egyptian pyramid. The seeds were planted, watered & in a few days sprouted after 2000 years of dormancy. It doesn’t matter how long they were dormant - when they were placed into an environment conducive to it’s growth it sprouted. So too with us; we have dormant capacities & when we are placed into an environment conducive to growth we “spring forth into full blossom”.

We are in the biggest transitional times of human history. We are being activated to levels never before experienced - to think feel & know in new ways; to think new thoughts. We are being called to each being archeologists of our own mind; regularly diving into the depths of ourselves & acknowledging we are godlings, expressing & experiencing creativity that is evolutionary & revolutionary. We’re calling forth in mind what wasn’t needed before - we are in spiritual renaissance - discovering & utilizing dormant or little used capacities. The Infinite fashioned us out of itself & is always working for the unfoldment of consciousness. Our thoughts are the seeds of our crop of life experiences. Keep thoughts such as this in your mind: “I acknowledge the Divine in me, as me. I am filled with the strength, wisdom, understanding, creativity & supply I need to meet every situation”.

Each Sunday at the close of our Celebration service I invite you to return & bring a friend. Of course we want to grow the Centre & personal invitation is one of the quickest ways. However my invitation to return & invite others is more than growth for the Centre - it is knowing that as each of us places ourselves into the environment of “healthy spirituality” that the Centre presents - we are nurturing the full blossom of our intrinsic Higher Self - the Christ Consciousness that dwells within us as a seed waiting to sprout forth & fully blossom in, through & as us. Acknowledging that summertime calls people to many activities, as your Minister, I ask you to have your spiritual home, the Centre for Self Awareness be a place that you frequent as you enjoy the full blossom of spring & summer.

Namaste,
Dr. Gail Schultz
